Leafy lights

thanks for the photo

Materials:

  • 1 ForestNation snowball tree kit
  • An adult
  • Frosted/pearlescent craft paper
  • White acrylic paint or a thick white craft pen
  • PVA glue
  • A drill (for the adult if you’re too young to use a drill)
  • A small loop of thread

For this craft idea, you will need to remove the seeds, growing pot/pellet, and instruction booklet from inside the snowball before we get started.

  1. Before you begin, ensure you have all of your materials to hand
  2. Next, use your drill (or ask an adult) to make a hole big enough for an LED fairy light to fit through in the top of your snowball tree kit, near to the eyelet but not right on top of it
  3. To prepare your snowball for decorating, make sure that it is clean by wiping it with a damp (not wet!) cloth
  4. Next, use a brush to apply an even coat of PVA glue to the outside of the snowball
  5. Immediately after applying the glue, cover it with the frosted or pearlescent craft paper (important: do not use tissue or newspaper for this stage!)
  6. Once the glue has dried and your paper is firmly attached to the snowball, decorate the outside of your bauble – you might want to draw stars or snowflakes along the join of the tree kit
  7. Leave to dry and then tie your thread through the eyelet of the snowball
  8. When you come to hang it on the tree, place the snowball on a branch near to a fairy light and pop the fairy light in through the hole in the top. You could secure with clear tape if you want to make sure it stays put.
