Le Meridien St. Julians Hotel & Spa

Le Méridien St Julians Hotel & Spa forms part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, a Global hospitality company that continuously stresses on the importance of being a leader in terms of environmental sustainability in all of its hotels worldwide. With its Environment Sustainability Policy statement, Starwood emphasizes on various topics such as conserving natural resources, minimizing waste and pollution, enhancing indoor environment quality, establishing and reporting on key environment performance indicators, raising environment awareness amongst hotel associates, hotel guests and local communities. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has committed to a 30% reduction in energy usage and a 20% reduction in water usage by 2020. Specific deliverables are required from each hotel and this international company expects nothing less than 100% commitment from its properties in adopting key sustainability initiatives.

Through the committed leadership of Joseph Zammit, Security – Health & Safety and Environmental Manager at Le Méridien St Julians, the hotel already actively contributed in energy conservation, controlling its carbon footprint by reducing the CO2emissions.  Le Méridien St Julians also boasts a waste management program and encourages customers and employees alike to participate in environmental activities organized by the hotel. Increasing the percentage of local products in all purchasing aspects is also a key part of the program.

To involve the local community in green initiatives has really become a priority for the hotel in the past couple of years. Indeed, the hotel management strives to implement activities that are in accordance to the policies of the company, yet that have been tailor-made based on the hotel needs and on the local environmental legislations such as the “Plant a Tree” initiative that was held on Friday 4th October 2013.

There are many initiatives that one can take in order to support the environment”, states Joseph Zammit who is to praise for the successful development of the environmental initiatives at the hotel.  “This was the first time that Le Méridien St Julians Hotel & Spa participated in this initiative, and it’s definitely not our last. This is everyone’s responsibility and even more the one of corporate companies that can educate their staff and customers alike.
