Prepa Tec has started a Tree kit sales fundraiser through ForestNation to initiate a “We Plant Peace” campaign for peace, to help the environment by planting trees, and to raise money for this inner-city middle school in Huntington Park, CA, USA. We are also going on a tree planting field trip for Earth Day on April 22, 2015.

We hope that the effect of using ForestNation will be that the causes of world peace and a healthy environment for all people of all ethnicities, religions, beliefs, countries, genders, abilities and creeds are powerfully forwarded.

A “One World Declaration of Peace” petition which was written with students from Mr. King’s former school Alliance College Ready Academy High School #5 is now being forwarded by Prepa Tec and is also available online at http://www.empower2020.net.

We like the fact that ForestNation will be matching the trees that we sell by planting a second tree in developing countries around the world.

We’ll plant the other tree in Ethiopia, India, Haiti, and Brazil.

Prepa Tec Los Angeles Middle School

Prepa Tec’s (www.prepatec.org) vision is to create a “World Class Center for Higher Learning” in Southeast Los Angeles where students exceed expectations, are self-aware and aware of others, are responsible, inquisitive, prepared, passionate, inspired, engaged, and independent, and love to have fun. We are a rigorous learning environment that not only empowers students to become self-motivated, competent, and lifelong learners, but also world citizens and guardians of our planet.

Now in its second year, Prepa Tec is becoming a model school for lifelong learning through the International Baccalaureate (www.ibo.org) Years Program (IBMYP). The curricular premise consists of incorporating thematic, inquiry-based units of instruction with structured inquiry methods that promote higher-level questioning and global thinking while encouraging a child’s natural curiosity.

Our philosophy is based on the idea that to educate middle school students for success in a twenty-first century global society, we must focus on the development of the whole child. These are the tenets of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program which has been developed by incorporating the best educational practices from all around the world. We are creating a dynamic environment where all staff cultivate, model, nurture, and promote our organizational values of real-world learning and application, servant leadership, inclusiveness, discovery, continuous improvement and accountability.

Social responsibility through actions

Prepa Tec Los Angeles Middle School was proud to have International Green Hero Gashaw Tahir whose organization Greenland Development Foundation (www.greenlandfoundation.org) planted over 1,000,000 trees in Ethiopia as a guest speaker on December 12th & 19th, 2014.

Mr. Tahir collaborated with Prepa Tec Technology Teacher and Peace Club Advisor Mr. Seth D. King to create the “We Plant Peace” campaign. Prepa Tec is holding a tree seedling sales fundraiser partnering with ForestNation (www.forestnation.com) to plant even more trees while raising money for this inner-city middle school in Huntington Park, CA, USA.

A “We Plant Peace” video of Mr. Tahir’s visit to Prepa Tec including a song by Mr. King and his children singing and rapping in it is available at

FAQs

ForestNation is a social business. We combine commercial, social and environmental goals equally. We empower individuals, companies and organizations to fulfill their own missions whilst growing a forest and creating sustainable livelihoods. We believe that giving back to Mother Earth should be fun and inspiring.

CO2: A tropical tree absorbs 50 pounds of carbon dioxide per year on average throughout its lifetime.
O2: Trees breathe out oxygen 4 to 5 times the amount of CO2 they absorb each year.
Land reforested: 1000 trees per hectare is a general reforestation best practice.
Jobs created: It takes 68 hours for 1 caretaker to create 10000 tree seedlings and 1 hour per day to maintain them. That translates to 40 hours of work for every 1000 trees.

For every 10,000 trees planted at least double that will germinate naturally within 5 years providing for generations to come. Also the forest provides habitat & shade for animals, natural resources for locals and adds to the beauty of the region.

We plant in the forests of Tanzania, Haiti, Uganda, Malawi, Madagascar and more. All our Tree Planting Projects create sustainable livelihoods. All the trees absorb CO2, offset carbon emissions and contribute towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. More details about where we plant trees for each campaign are explained on the campaign page.

We work closely with our local tree nurseries to ensure bests practices are followed. They use agroforestry techniques where trees or shrubs are grown around or among crops or pastureland to increase natural reforestation and biodiversity as nature intended.

We mostly plant trees which provide harvest to the local communities. For example, fruit trees are planted around schools in Tanzania to provide nutrition to the children. Our trees also help avoid land degradation. For example, trees were planted along the Lushoto water catchment basin, which supplies fresh water to over 20,000 people in the Lushoto Township and is important to prevent future stream bank erosion.

It takes 8 to 9 months for tree seedlings to be prepped for plantation. Different species are stocked up and made ready for planting during favorable seasons. For example, our Tanzanian nursery plants from March to June and October to December.

A Tree kit has everything you need to grow a tree from seed. We plant matching trees for every tree kit you get as a gift. We also plant matching trees whenever you name your Tree on ForestNation.

Trees connect you with Mother Earth and ignite your nurturing instinct. Growing something from seed helps you experiencing nature’s magic and give back. Tree kits also support our local Tree kit maker (1000 kits create a full day of work).
