Prepa Tec's ForestNation
Say Thanks to Prepa Tec!
Prepa Tec has started a Tree kit sales fundraiser through ForestNation to initiate a “We Plant Peace” campaign for peace, to help the environment by planting trees, and to raise money for this inner-city middle school in Huntington Park, CA, USA. We are also going on a tree planting field trip for Earth Day on April 22, 2015.
We hope that the effect of using ForestNation will be that the causes of world peace and a healthy environment for all people of all ethnicities, religions, beliefs, countries, genders, abilities and creeds are powerfully forwarded.
A “One World Declaration of Peace” petition which was written with students from Mr. King’s former school Alliance College Ready Academy High School #5 is now being forwarded by Prepa Tec and is also available online at http://www.empower2020.net.
We like the fact that ForestNation will be matching the trees that we sell by planting a second tree in developing countries around the world.
We’ll plant the other tree in Ethiopia, India, Haiti, and Brazil.
Prepa Tec Los Angeles Middle School
Prepa Tec’s (www.prepatec.org) vision is to create a “World Class Center for Higher Learning” in Southeast Los Angeles where students exceed expectations, are self-aware and aware of others, are responsible, inquisitive, prepared, passionate, inspired, engaged, and independent, and love to have fun. We are a rigorous learning environment that not only empowers students to become self-motivated, competent, and lifelong learners, but also world citizens and guardians of our planet.
Now in its second year, Prepa Tec is becoming a model school for lifelong learning through the International Baccalaureate (www.ibo.org) Years Program (IBMYP). The curricular premise consists of incorporating thematic, inquiry-based units of instruction with structured inquiry methods that promote higher-level questioning and global thinking while encouraging a child’s natural curiosity.
Our philosophy is based on the idea that to educate middle school students for success in a twenty-first century global society, we must focus on the development of the whole child. These are the tenets of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program which has been developed by incorporating the best educational practices from all around the world. We are creating a dynamic environment where all staff cultivate, model, nurture, and promote our organizational values of real-world learning and application, servant leadership, inclusiveness, discovery, continuous improvement and accountability.
Social responsibility through actions
Prepa Tec Los Angeles Middle School was proud to have International Green Hero Gashaw Tahir whose organization Greenland Development Foundation (www.greenlandfoundation.org) planted over 1,000,000 trees in Ethiopia as a guest speaker on December 12th & 19th, 2014.
Mr. Tahir collaborated with Prepa Tec Technology Teacher and Peace Club Advisor Mr. Seth D. King to create the “We Plant Peace” campaign. Prepa Tec is holding a tree seedling sales fundraiser partnering with ForestNation (www.forestnation.com) to plant even more trees while raising money for this inner-city middle school in Huntington Park, CA, USA.
A “We Plant Peace” video of Mr. Tahir’s visit to Prepa Tec including a song by Mr. King and his children singing and rapping in it is available at
