Plant with BioFuelNet

Planting and nurturing a tree helps remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, converting it into living biomass. Carbon dioxide is the most important anthropogenic greenhouse gas, simply because we produce so much of it. It is the main driver of climate change and all of the extreme weather, reduced food crop production, ecological damage and potential social instability that goes with it. A simple tree has the capacity to stand against all this.

– Donald Smith, President & Scientific Director, BioFuelNet Canada

By planting white spruce trees, you not only help absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, but also provide food and habitat to a multitude of native forest species. For example, birds, such as spruce grouse, chickadees and nuthatches, eat the seeds from spruce cones; squirrels, voles and shrews also eat various parts of the tree; and moose and deer use spruce stands for thermal protection. We thank you for making Canada greener and for contributing to this initiative!

We are using ForestNation tree kits to care for our planet and communicate our green values. The ForestNation tree kits are by far the greenest promotional item we could offer our partners or conference attendees. Trees are the original climate change fighters. They contribute to the reduction of CO2 in our atmosphere, which is very much in alignment with our goals at BioFuelNet Canada. Every single tree planted is a step towards a greener, healthier planet.

Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago (Warren Buffett). Let’s ensure that people around the world can benefit from some affordable shade and Buffet wisdom.

BioFuelNet Canada

BioFuelNet Canada (BFN) is a national network whose mission is to support the growth of Canada’s advanced biofuels industry through coordinated research, innovation, effective education, smart policy and strategic partnerships.

Our community consists of 27 Canadian universities, 80 leading researchers, and over 100 partner organizations, including 40 industry partners, 6 international organizations as well as dozens of governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Our network aligns national biofuel research activities to accelerate commercialization and effectively position developing technologies in the marketplace. We operate under a $25 million grant through the Federal Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) program. Our headquarters are located in the beautiful and culturally diverse city of Montreal.

Canada has been truly “blessed” with an abundance of forest covered lands whose immediate benefits are multifaceted and incalculable. Consider the following: Forests contribute to the production of oxygen we breathe, remove carbon dioxide, help clean the air and moderate the climate. Forests regulate our supply of fresh water, help prevent erosion and flooding, create habitat for wildlife and provide recreation and aesthetic value. Forests also provide a critical source of Canadian economic growth and prosperity and are the main source of wood for paper, furniture, composite materials, lumber, and more recently industrial chemicals. Well-managed and sustainable forests initiatives will continue to ensure that Canadian forests play a major role in the country’s current and future economic, social and environmental well being and BioFuelNet is proud to be part of these activities.
