GreenWheaton organized outreach events with several businesses, non-profit and government speakers to discuss a variety of ways residents and businesses can “green” their homes, businesses, and organizations. For example, we have offered programs on wind power, eco-friendly lighting, tree conservation, community gardening and composting opportunities.
GreenWheaton partnered with DEP and installed the first conservation landscape garden in downtown Wheaton in 2010 on Reedie Drive. The garden was installed by volunteers and shows how landscaping can both improve water quality and add beauty to an urban area. It was designed to be easily replicated throughout the County using Rainscapes Program funding.
