Concrete is eating into the greenery of urban spaces. No wonder the bee population is under threat. But there’s hope. Efforts are being made to create bee-friendly urban roadsides.
Utrecht recently upgraded their city’s bus stops to have lush green rooftops with plants that attract bees and other pollinators. These plants will also help clean the air and store moisture, making the city more livable.
Elsewhere, over 75,000 people have signed a petition in the UK to grow wildflower meadows on barren roadside verges. These meadows will definitely create thriving habitats for pollinating insects.
It’s simple. If we don’t have pollinators, we don’t have the plants and flowers who rely on them. Hope other city councils take note of these initiatives and bee-green their urban spaces soon. #forestnation
