2023: The Hottest Summer on Record

The entire month of June-August set a new record as the hottest summer ever recorded on Earth. This fact is confirmed by data from multiple climate agencies, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the World Meteorological Organisation.

The European Union-funded Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), implemented by ECMWF, reports that Earth has experienced its warmest three-month period on record. In addition, this denotes the third consecutive month with unparalleled high global sea surface temperatures, and Antarctic sea ice extent remains at a record low considering the season.

August was the warmest ever recorded, surpassing previous records by a significant margin, and only second to July 2023 in terms of heat, as per the Copernicus Climate Change Service ERA 5 dataset. C3S’s monthly climate bulletin points out that August was approximately 1.5°C warmer than the preindustrial average observed from 1850-1900.

Why You Should Plant

Help us cool down the planet during its hottest month by planting trees! Trees are nature’s air conditioners, absorbing CO2 and releasing moisture to form clouds which bring rain and cooling effects. Not to mention, their shade significantly reduces heat reflection off the ground. Let’s combat the heatwave together – join us in reforesting our community! Because, a tree today means a cooler tomorrow!
