On June 29, 2017, Ecosia reached an incredible milestone: they planted their 10 millionth tree. So, what exactly is Ecosia, and how in the world did they plant so many trees? Ecosia is an innovative search engine (like Google or Bing) that uses the money it makes from advertisements to plant trees. At least 80% of the income that Ecosia generates is donated to tree planting projects around the world. Some of their project sites include Indonesia, Madagascar, Tanzania, and Peru. Simply by using this site as your primary search engine, you can help plant trees and change the world.
To celebrate their milestone, Ecosia recently released a video. Since its founding in 2009, this social business has been able to employ 25,000 farmers and restore 20,000 hectares of land. In addition, they have planted 170 different species of trees. Their ambitious goal is to plant 1 billion trees by 2020.

You can be a part of their mission to achieve this goal. Install Ecosia as your default search engine to start planting trees just by searching the web! It is available for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and more. And you can use it on your computer, laptop, tablet, or cell phone. But just how many trees can you plant? About every 56 searches that you make will fund the planting of one new tree. The search engine even keeps track of your searches in the right hand corner of the page. That way, you are able to figure out exactly how many trees you have helped to plant!
While doing your part by using this search engine will certainly help the planet, imagine the impact you can make if you get others to use it, too. What if you could get everyone in your office, school, club, or university to search with Ecosia? You could easily multiply your impact by hundreds, or even thousands of trees!
