Trees Are Cool

Trees are nature’s air conditioners. Their shade can cool an area by 15 °C. In fact, the net cooling effect of a tree is equivalent to 10 room-sized air conditioners working 20 hours a day!

So why spend so much on air conditioning, when you can naturally save costs by planting trees in your backyard. If you live in a warm climate for most of the year, then evergreen trees are the best. Deciduous trees are a better idea for predominantly cooler regions as they’ll also heat your home during Winter.

These tree species are the shadiest 🙂

  • Red Oak
  • Cedar
  • River Birch
  • Poplar
  • Eucalyptus
  • Red Maple
  • Weeping Willow
  • Redwood
  • Cigar tree
  • Juniper
  • Pecan
  • Pine

This list is not extensive or area specific. Consult your local nursery for advice. And make sure you plant trees in the direction where the sun infiltrates most during the day. Happy planting. #forestnation
